Buying A New Or Used Boat: What Do You Really Wanted To Know

By Capablanca Fisher

When someone wanted to buy a boat, there is always the same question which pops in everyones head. Should they buy a new or a used boat?

If you wanted to buy a new boat. Here are some of the advantages of it. A new boat will come with a warranty. Therefore, it will save you the headache if something goes wrong with your boat and needed repairs.

Besides that, financing for a new boat will be much easier as you can usually get a better interest rate if you buy a new boat compared to a used boat.

However, a new boat will be much more expensive than a used boat and their value can quickly decreased within the first few years. A new boat also required furnishing such as boat accessories, electronics and all the other riggings which are usually found in a boat.

With a used boat, you can get it at a much cheaper price. So, this would be a good option if you are in a tight budget or just wanted a taste to see if boating suits you. You could also get some experience as a boat captain first in a used boat as you would not mind as much if you create some scratches on the boat as used boat usually comes with one or two.

Furthermore, a used boat also came with all the furnishing which the previous owners would have set up. This will reduce the need of spending much money for this purpose.

However, some used boats also come with slight mechanical fault or any other problems. Thus, hiring a boat surveyor is a must to ensure that the boat you are receiving have no defects in them.

Even though you might be thinking of skipping the part of hiring a boat surveyor, this is an unwise decision as it would be much cheaper to have marine survey than to have costly repairs afterward due to unseen problems during purchase of the boat.

Depending upon the results of the survey, you can stop the deal or use the results to get a lower price if there are problems that need to be attended to. Getting a marine survey is the smart decision if you are buying a used boat. It can save you money, time, and heartache, which will make the price of the survey well worth it.

As a conclusion, buying a new or used boat both has their pros and cons. Therefore it is up to you to decide which type of boat you wanted to buy after evaluating the options you have.

A Day Boat (dayboat) is exactly what it says - it is a boat usually used for Day Trips and therefore tends not to have any accommodation on board. Examples of uses of Day Boats would be to go for a trip along the English South Coast or go fishing. Some DayBoats will have sail as well as motors giving the choice of power depending on the conditions. Prices for these boats varies from less than 1,000 for a used craft from a boat brokerage, to over 50,000 for a high end specification. The Jeanneau Cap Camarat is a good example of a motor day boat and can be acquired for less than 20,000 second hand whilst the Hawk 20 is a good example of a sailing dayboat

Tropical Depression Four ( TD 4 ) and Disturbance 91L - Atlantic storms.

Mon, 13 Aug 2007 20:05:53 +0200
Tropical Depression Four (TD 4 ) a storm in the Atlantic - this was designated late this morning. It's moving to the west, and I expect this motion to continue for the next 72 hours. I feel the NHC has a good track forecast right now, based on what I've seen in the forecast steering currents as mentioned this morning. This could change as this reaches T.S. or Hurricane status. I will continue to monitor that and put out a forecast if needed regarding any possible change. All interests in the Leeward Islands, Caribbean Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of this system closely.

A Study of Boat Covers

By Susan Fielding

A lot of people aspire to own their very own sailboat and sail up and down the coasts of the world in brilliant sunshine. It is a great activity, and it is enjoyed by millions of people throughout the world. Simply owning your own boat with many accessories is not the end though. The proper maintenance is what will keep your boat running for a long while. Take care of your boat at all times, as well as the accessories that go with it.

Although boats are not living organisms like human beings, they are though also subject to natural deterioration from the elements. If you do not pamper your loved possession, then with time, it will become worthless to you and not perform the way you need it to.

Providing added attention to a cover for your boat is required to keep your boat in pristine condition at all times. They keep dust, snow, harsh rain, and other elemental factors away from your boat. If you do not protect your boat from these harsh elements, then the lovely friend called corrosion will show up and immediately devalue this prized possession.

There are many options when it comes to boat covers. The best options are custom boat covers. They are created to satisfy the customers needs, and come in many different styles. You might want to bear in mind a few things before buying a boat cover. It is up to you to make sure that you measure your boats dimensions accurately. Conduct some online research, as to the various types of covers there are, the fabrics they are made of, and the customer reviews for that product. All soft fabrics are ideal for custom boat covers. A fabric that is strong and flexible at the same time is an important part as well. Covers made of such fabric keeps the boat protected from the far reaching effects of direct sunlight and the elements at large. These can include rust and corrosion.

There are many online retailers that you can have to build your custom boat cover for you. It does not matter where or how you buy your cover, always do the research before buying. Whether you buy online or offline, do not buy before doing some research. Custom boat covers come in many different colors and various fabrics and in just about any price range. So you have a wide array of choice to choose from for all your boat cover needs. Do not rush into anything; take your time in researching the proper cover, and then you are ready to protect your investment.

In June 1998 the European Union (EU) initiated a Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) which introduced minimum standards that new boats built within the EU or imported into it have to meet. This directive applies to all pleasure boats with a hull length of more than 2.50 metres but less than 24.00 metres, and it divides the boats into four categories of sea going suitability. This can only be used as a guide as they give minimum standards only. Note that January 2005 saw an amendment to this directive come into effect. Boat Share - How To Reduce Boating Costs

By James Fletcher

James FletcherLevel: PlatinumJames Fletcher is a boating and fishing enthusiast. James takes the knowledge from his own experiences and combines them with the knowledge from other people ... ...

There are many different ways to save money when owning a boat. Boat sharing is one great option. Whether your simply sharing with a friend or family member or joining a club where you part lease a boat, there are a few good ways to save money.

Sharing a boat with a friend or family member is the simplest option. This will effectively half your upfront and ongoing costs. Considering most people rarely use a boat alone it makes good sense to share the burden. This also gives you the ability to spend more than you were originally planning which gives you the opportunity to buy a bigger or newer boat. Boat cost are ongoing and can really sting the back pocket. Sharing with a friend is an ideal way to keep these costs down to a minimum.

Another option to save money is to join a boat lease/share organisation. Quite simply, these clubs ask for an annual fee that entitles you to use a certain boat a set number of times a year. Usually the number is around 10 days a year which seems quite minimal, but i have yet heard of a person who has needed to exceed this quota. This option allows you to have no hassles as the boat will be serviced, moored and looked after with no effort from you. This option also allows you to lease a boat that may be much more expensive than you could ever afford. Ultimately the lease/share option allows you a hassle free boat to use throughout the year at your convenience.

Remember before buying a boat that it is a costly experience. Not only will you be faced with upfront costs for the boat and purchasing fees, you will also be burdened with ongoing costs such as insurances, licensing fees, mooring fees, servicing costs etc. Try to go halves or thirds with someone you know or consider leasing a boat out at your convenience.

Luxury sailing yachts generally 82 ft or longer, in recent years, these yachts have evolved from fairly simple vessels with basic accommodation into sophisticated and luxurious boats. This is largely due to reduced hull-building costs brought about by the introduction of fibreglass hulls, and increased automation and "production line" techniques for yacht building, especially in Europe.
